The Mattress industry is famous for it’s blowout sales. If labor day weekend is coming up you can bet that you will be overexposed to a barrage of mattress ads and television commercials. This is the biggest time of the year for the mattress industry. Although this is a great time to buy a mattress, it is your job to make sure you are actually getting a deal and not a carefully manipulated price.

Mattress stores have been known to raise their “everyday price” up higher then normal and then advertise a 40 % off sale. When in reality after that 40 % is taken off you are just back to paying something close to the normal everyday price. Another ploy that mattress stores pull at these times of the year is getting a customer in the door with a huge sale offering. Once the customer is in the door the salesman will start pitching a product that is above the price range that you said you can afford.

The moral of this story is that you have to do your homework before being sold on a mattress sale. If you know what the price was two weeks before the store had a sale then you will know if you are really getting a deal.

The best way to approach mattress shopping is to deal with mattress sellers that don’t use phony sales to get you in the door. You are far better off dealing with a company that gives you straight information and a straight price.

A great way to circumvent this ugly process is to do your homework and possibly make your purchase online. It is virtually impossible to comparison shop at retail stores because no two stores carry the same exact brand line (they do this with the intention of confusing the customer). By shopping online you cut out the middle man and just focus on making a purchase that really works for you. Many people might be fearful of making a purchase like a mattress online. However, if you go back a few years you would have heard people say the same thing about many of the products that we buy online today without thinking twice about it. This is not to say you can never get a good deal in a store, just make sure that when you think your getting the benefit of a sale, that it is indeed a real sale.
